I’m back with another review to serve up.

There are three things that I love about Sundays: a nice long drive with no traffic, acoustic versions of great songs on the radio, and a really good, hearty breakfast. Today I got to do all three on the way home north of Boston.

Miko’s was a nicely designed and decorated café with three sections, small tables up front, larger tables and booths in the middle and the diner counter with high backs where I sat in the back. At the counter there was a brilliantly ornate antique cash register more for show than function. Up top in the inlay was a large flat screen TV that softly chirped the news and built into the counter was a very appropriately placed foot rest.

My waiter came over right away and I ordered a hot coffee which he served right away. I then ordered the big breakfast #4 which cost $8.99 and included a Belgian waffle, two brown ‘n serve sausages, 4 triangles of buttered wheat toast, two over easy eggs, and home fries. After that I had to use the restroom from my long drive, and as soon as I got back my food was all ready.

So how was the food?

It was very good actually. The eggs was perfectly over easy, the bacon was crispy, the sausage was cooked through and hot, and the home fries was seasoned nicely and fried perfectly. The waffle had a dollop of butter that melted into the crispy exterior and came with a container of Aunt Jemima syrup. The toast was slightly under toasted so that the butter on it practically went right through the soft bread. However, I don’t like heavily toasted bread so it was fine by me.

The service was… I think fast would be the word. It was very busy this Sunday so all the servers were lightning quick with requests and orders. They were highly organized in the café and that is something I appreciate since I went to school for hospitality management.  The one thing that bugged me a little was that for the drive-thru there was a buzzer that went off whenever someone approach or an order was ready. That aside, my coffee was refilled one time and I could have used one more but at least I was beginning to relax a little, and sipping on an ice water I asked for before paying and departing sufficed just fine.

Does It Hit The Spot?

Yes. This diner was comfortable and clean. It had good food, and decent service for an affordable price. It was $11.30 with tax and after a tip came to $14 for a good bit of food and drink. This café is right near my house which is a plus and if they expand their menu and pick up a little on the counter service it would absolutely be a perfect score. I am sure I’ll return to Miko’s very soon.
