A marketing agency working with the Nabisco Wheat Thins brand contacted me through email about taste testing their new product Wheat Thin Stix. The new product boasts a new shape of packing for easy sharing and a new shape compared to the usual flat squares.

That package looks different! What is up with that?

Looking at the new packaging there are three triangles in the front and back that push out the sides making quick snacking a little easier. The sides of the boxes have a division in the middle which could make an octagon out of the box, but all fail to properly push out at the same time. The additional bends in the box also make it a little more vulnerable to crushing on the go. Do I like the new shape? Yes. Do I think it’s perfect? No.

What flavors do they sell and how much do you get for the price?

Wheat Thins Stix come in two flavors: fire roasted tomato, and the one I received, honey wheat. For a new product I am surprised they didn’t place original in the mix with one additional flavor. The suggested retail price is $3.49 and each box contains about 112 sticks, which is a decent amount for snacking and sharing.

How did they taste?

The crackers are thick enough to hold up to a heavy dip and are shaped perfectly for it. My favorite cracker-stick condiments were french onion, whipped cream cheese with chive, and veggie dip. The crackers have a great wholesome wheat flavor and a nice snap to them. They are quite salty, but paired with the creamy dips it was balanced out. The salt has no texture and is sprayed all the way across the cracker. If you like salty snacks like me then you probably won’t put the box down for quite a long while. The honey taste is present on the back end after the salt subsides and the honey wheat flavor rushes toward your taste buds. It is that combination of salty and sweet that makes these crackers so snackable straight up.

Does It Hit The Spot?

These Stix, although not groundbreaking in shape of flavor, are a new way to enjoy an old favorite. The new shape holds up really well in heavy creamy dips. I am still waiting for the day a cracker is built like a makeshift spoon and can really scoop dips or chili into your mouth. But for now these are mighty tasty. The combo of salty and sweet is classic and the strong wheat flavor is quite nice.

Wheat Thins Stix is a nice new addition to my party platters with veggies and dip or chili, and the social media work the company is doing is great. Two recent commercials feature people who wished about having Wheat Thins resulting in one pallet full of boxes for one person and a branded pair of earmuffs for another. So thanks Wheat Thins for letting me try these, please strengthen that box up and I hope to try the other flavor sometime soon.

I tried these last night, and honestly, I thought they were awful. I thought they had a sort of barky taste that I found very off-putting.
